Ny-Ålesund is a small town in Oscar II Land on the island of Spitsbergen in Svalbard, Norway. It is situated on the Brøgger peninsula and on the shore of the bay of Kongsfjorden. The company town is owned and operated by Kings Bay, which provides facilities for permanent research institutes from ten countries.
Smeerenburgfjorden is a fjord in Albert I Land at Spitsbergen, Svalbard. It has a length of about twenty kilometers and a width of about four kilometers. The fjord is named after the old whaling settlement Smeerenburg, which was situated at the southern part of Amsterdam Island.
Liefdefjorden is a fjord in Haakon VII Land on Spitsbergen, Svalbard. It has a length of about 30 km. Former names of the fjord include Baye d'Amour, Kjærlighedsbugten, Porto detto l'Amato, Liefde Bay and Love Bay. Monacobreen debouches into the fjord.
Alkefjellet is a cliff in Lomfjordhalvøya in Ny-Friesland at Spitsbergen, Svalbard. Alkefjellet is a bird cliff facing towards Hinlopen Strait.
Palanderbukta is a fjord or bay in Gustav Adolf Land at Nordaustlandet, Svalbard, a southern bay of Wahlenbergfjorden. The bay is named after Swedish naval officer Louis Palander. Palanderbukta has a length of about twelve nautical miles.
Hornsund is a fjord on the western side of the southernmost tip of Spitsbergen island. The fjord's mouth faces west to the Greenland Sea, and is 12 kilometres wide. The length is 30 kilometres, the mean depth is 90 metres, and the maximal depth is 260 metres.
Longyearbyen is a small coal-mining town on Spitsbergen Island, in Norway's Svalbard archipelago. This Arctic town is known for its views of the Northern Lights. The modern Svalbard Museum chronicles the region’s natural and cultural history. It includes a stuffed polar bear. Live bears can occasionally be seen in the area. The North Pole Expeditions Museum recounts early efforts to reach the pole by air.
