  5. Day 5Praia da Vitoria, AzoresMay 16, 2027 • Arrives at: 8 am • Departs at: 6 pm

Around 850 miles west of Portugal, the Azores are an archipelago of nine Portuguese-speaking islands scattered across the Atlantic waters, known for their dramatic and verdant landscapes. Portuguese navigators discovered the first of the Azores in 1432, although 2,000 Flemish settlers were among its early immigrants, and their influence can still be seen in the windmills that dot the landscape on some islands. Praia de Vitoria is located on Terceira, an island whose name means ‘third’ in reference to the order in which it was discovered.

  6. Day 6Ponta Delgada, AzoresMay 17, 2027 • Arrives at: 8 am • Departs at: 6 pm

The Azores rise from the Atlantic Ocean, 900 miles from the Portuguese coast. The largest city in the Azores, Ponta Delgada is on Sao Miguel and is named after the volcanic lands it sits proudly upon. This Atlantic stepping-stone also claims to produce the world’s finest pineapples. If that’s not an invitation to try one, we don’t know what is.

Nestling between the Atlantic and Atlas Mountains, this beach resort is a scenic wonder. As if the views alone were not enough, you’ll find its traditions just as inspiring. An intriguing destination. This 9th-century merchant town, with its photogenic ramparts, is an ancient trade marvel. Known for its jewellers and carpet vendors, there are many charming spots to enjoy an authentic mint tea.

The mere mention of Casablanca can conjure the hazy romance of the movie, but there is much more to this bustling port. Get swept up in this vibrant and timeless city and discover its unique charm. Casablanca is Morocco’s largest city and one of Africa’s top financial centres. Anfa Boulevard is a highlight – a history-rich street accepted widely as the centre of the ‘original’ Casablanca.

Tangier is just 20 miles from Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar. It is a bustling and vibrant city, which has an appropriate balance of shops to browse, beautiful beaches and historical landmarks. Stroll the beachfront on Ave Mohammed VI, and sample the local mint tea. Perhaps a tour of the Kasbah Museum in the former Sultan’s palace before some craft souvenirs from The Souk in the Medina.

Portugal's capital spreads its ancient sites on seven hills overlooking the Tagus River. Atop the highest hill, St. George's Castle overlooks the city. Balconies ablaze with geraniums and wrought iron lamps light up the medieval Alfama quarter. Sorrowful fados ring out from cafés in the Alto. Shoppers browse in the affluent Chiado district. A short drive away, deposed royalty once lived out their days in the opulent palaces of Estoril and Sintra.
