North of the Arctic Circle, the Lofoten Islands are a remote Norwegian archipelago spanning an area less than 500 square miles. Of the six prominent islands that occupy Lofoten, Leknes lies in Vestvagoya, a region famed for its dramatic scenery and Viking lineage. Leknes is Vestvagoya’s most populous town and it’s here, against the backdrop of jagged mountains and salt white beaches, that voyages with Cunard call. While evidence points to life in Lofoten for over eleven centuries, only since 2002 has Leknes been formally recognised as a town. Large by island standards, at 620 acres, the town pales in comparison to other major municipalities (London, by contrast, occupies 75,000 acres). Even so, roughly 1.5 thousand townsfolk inhabit Leknes per square mile while its harbour is one of the most visited in all of the Lofoten Islands.

Explore regal pomp and ceremony, Norwegian style. The wooden ‘Stiftsagarden' is the city's official royal residence and under Nidaros Cathedral's gleaming spire, monarchs are crowned to this very day.

Not far from the idyllic Andalsnes, you’ll locate a unique curiosity: the ‘Troll Wall’, which features immense grassy cliffs forming Europe's highest vertical mountain face. An amazing natural wonder. A steady climb of the ‘Troll Ladder’ entails a zigzagging road of hairpin bends on the steep mountainside, revealing spectacular valley views as you near the thundering Stigfossen Waterfall.

In Romsdalsfjord, explore a region of deep blue fjords, rolling emerald hills, crashing waterfalls and jagged, snow-capped mountains, which are interspersed with charming villages Vikings once ruled. Sailing the fjords is a memorable maritime experience. Formed during the Ice Age when the glaciers retreated, deep valleys and narrow inlets were flooded with seawater to create these natural wonders.
