Portree, the largest town on the renowned Isle of Skye in Scotland’s Inner Hebrides, has a picture-perfect harbor, fringed by cliffs, with a pier designed by noted Scottish civil engineer and architect Thomas Telford. In-town attractions include the Áros Centre, celebrating the island’s Gaelic heritage; and MacNab’s Inn, the last meeting place of Flora MacDonald and Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1746. The town is also an excellent starting point for day trips around the beautiful island; the most popular being drives to the north country to see such sites as the Old Man of Storr and the small crafting town of Staffin and to the western side of the island to Medieval Dunvegan Castle with its lovely surrounding woodlands, sea lochs, rivers and gardens.
